Jungle Cruise Review

Tags :

Based on Disneyland’s theme park ride where a small riverboat takes a group of travelers through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles but with a supernatural element.

Why did I come to this movie again?

1-The Rock
2-Emily Blunt
3-The Rock
4-Cheesy humor…by The Rock
5-Expectations of laughing out loud because of pure silliness

5 of 5

Characters

My expectations were fully fulfilled with the characters in the show. Dwayne Johnson was just as slap-stick as I thought he would be. Emily Blunt was just as Librarian-Evie-from-the-Mummy as I expected. Her brother tossed in some good humor as well as depth . The prince dude was cringe-worthy bad. I can’t give this 5 for 5 mostly because nothing came as a surprise.

Did I care what happened?

Yes. Considering the 2+ hour length of the movie I worried about action fatigue, but I didn’t get annoyed with it like I thought I might. The plot, while predictable, kept me wondering where we were going next. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat, but I did wonder.

4 of 5

Plot Holes

Like a superhero movie, I expect plot holes. In this case, there were enough to drive a submarine through. I didn’t go to the movie expecting anything else, and mostly the film embraced its own cheesiness and dared me to question its flawed logic. Which I decided not to do, else I spoil the wonders shown to me, like the back side of water.

How many times did I yawn?

None, and I saw it very late.

5 of 5

Cool Factor

The effects were fun. My biggest CGI twitch was the jaguar. The film certainly had spectacle down to an art. All in all, good.

4 of 5

The End

I was torn with the end. Without spoilers, I would have been fine if the film had swung the other way. As it is, I was satisfied. The finale is fun.

Overall Enjoyment

Loved it. Would see it again in theaters.

Black Widow Review

Natasha Romanoff confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises.

Why did I come to this movie again?

Because I’ve loved Natasha Romanoff’s character since she was introduced in the MCU. Also, that Hopper guy from Stranger Things is in it. 😊

5 of 5

Characters

I felt like the characters were pretty solid. The whole family-ish dynamic was fun, and Natasha’s sister is a hoot.

The bad guys were flat. Oh so flat. Not unexpected for a superhero movie, but a little disappointing.

4 of 5

Did I care what happened?

Spoilers here: Since we all know what happens to Natasha in Endagame, this movie was almost like filler. Nothing super drastic can happen to her in this show, so yes, I cared what happened, but the writers put themselves in a hard spot to keep the tension going.

4 of 5

Plot Holes

I’m pretty tolerant of superhero movie plot holes. This one was, like huge.

The MCU has established that Natasha was trained in some sort of finishing school for super-spy women. We’ve gotten the impression that she took the place down. Spoiler, this isn’t the case.

Fine, good plot device, however, how does the entire world miss a flying city over Russia? And how does the guy in charge have as much power as they say he does in the film and we’ve never even heard of him before.

I’d say that Natasha probably has her finger on the pulse of anything that even smells of the Red Room, which means this simple lack of logic by the writers bugged me.

Also, why have we never heard of the Russian super soldier? Pretty sure that would be a thing.

Too many things introduced that had no logical explanation.

3 of 5

How many times did I yawn?

It wasn’t quite action fatigue, but the film went from 0 to 100 in about three seconds at least six times. Whiplash, that’s what this film gave me.

4 of 5

Cool Factor

I love the martial arts, and this movie delivered. I liked the filming as well as the music.

4 of 5

The End

Th end was never in doubt. I have trouble thinking all of those poor black widow spy ladies would be stable, as they portrayed them, but it would be cool if the MCU did something with some of them in the future.

4 of 5

Overall Enjoyment

I did enjoy the humor. I loved the pseudo broken family dynamic and how they got put together as a family in the first place. The logic holes were irksome, but other than that, it was fun to watch.

A Quiet Place Part II Review

Tags :

Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.

Why did I come to this movie again?

Because the first one was awesome and I wanted to see the second one!

5 of 5

Characters

In general I liked the characters. I thought Emily Blunt did a great job. The kids looked properly traumatized, and the guy who helps them was cool. The son, while his acting was awesome, the part where he leaves the baby to go explore upstairs was one of the moments in the film that took me out of the story. They hadn’t played him that stupid up to that point.

4 of 5

Did I care what happened?

Yes, I did. Although half of the story had me riveted, while the other half (even though it was tense) felt stalled. So that was a bit odd.

4 of 5

Plot Holes

Uh, it’s a movie about aliens that can hear a noise from miles away and come running, so I’m pretty lenient with the plot holes. However, the crazy people on the pier should have known better. Give your enemy noise makers? Really?

4 of 5

How many times did I yawn?

Most of the movie is pretty tense, so no yawning. However, it did feel stalled a few times.

4 of 5

Cool Factor

To my disappointment, there was less complete silence in this movie than the first one. Don’t get me wrong, there were a couple of jump scars that almost made me scream, so that was fun. I still loved it though.

4 of 5

The End

The end was satisfying for me!

5 of 5

Overall Enjoyment

We’ve been crazy busy for the past eight weeks, so we haven’t been out to see a movie. Just getting out of our house and relaxing was enough for me to give this movie a solid 5. However, I did really like it. Not quite as good as the first one, but good enough that I’d probably watch it again.

Finding You Review

Tags :

Finley, a talented aspiring violinist, meets Beckett, a famous young movie star, on the way to her college semester abroad program in a small coastal village in Ireland. An unexpected romance emerges as the heartthrob Beckett leads the uptight Finley on an adventurous reawakening, and she emboldens him to take charge of his future, until the pressures of his stardom get in the way.

Why did I come to this movie again?

A couple of girlfriends and I wanted to go to a movie, and this is the only one that looked good to us all. We were expecting a cute romance, and that’s what we got!

5 of 5

Characters

I think I loved all of the characters. From the main couple, to the crazy foster family, to the drunk fiddler, to the grouchy old woman…I was drawn in by all of them, and the writers did a good job giving them all a little growth.

Also, Ireland itself became a character in this movie, which is always fun!

5 of 5

Did I care what happened?

Okay, romances are pretty predictable, and this one didn’t hold any surprises. However, I stayed engaged through the whole film. Like I said, I loved the characters, so it was easy to care about them.

5 of 5

Plot Holes

While things remained complicated for the characters throughout the movie, there were a couple of things that felt off. Like no one, in how many years, bothered to ask a poor old woman why she’d stolen her sister’s man 50-something years before? Not one person??? Also, how does a movie star have so much down time? Nothing earth-shattering, just little stuff.

4 of 5

How many times did I yawn?

There were a few slow spots, but that’s expected for a romance. A couple of things felt like they got too much screen time, but other than that, it held my attention.

4 of 5

Cool Factor

This is a pretty formulaic romance, and since there wasn’t a Nicholas Sparks twist of any kind, I wouldn’t say the cool factor was off the charts. However, it did deliver with cute romance, a beautiful backdrop, fun activities, and a great resolution. Also, the film never took itself too seriously, so that was nice.

4 of 5

The End

I liked the ending. Usually the main couple will drop everything for love. I mean, that happens, (sorry, spoilers, but I did warn you that it was a standard romance plot) but there is some compromise that felt refreshingly real.

5 of 5

Overall Enjoyment

I laughed a lot. I cried a bit. I smiled through most of it. Frankly this is just what I needed this week. If you’re feeling down, and like a fun romance movie, go see this one!

Also, they had the girl, who was in Ireland for a semester abroad, wearing the same clothes a couple of times, which was great. Anyone who travels knows you only have so many shirts. Just a detail I appreciated.
