A Girl and Her Cat: Book 2

Tags :

I just sent this book off to my beta readers!
I’m hoping to have the eBook out before FanX in September.
Check out the cover teaser and scroll down for a small sampling of the book.

This takes place after the high school musical.
Go read book 1 if you don’t know what I’m talking about!

My phone buzzed, and I reached for it, careful not to tug on the IV in my arm, the bandage over the bite, or the annoying oxygen monitor around my finger. I swept it to life and smiled when I found a picture of Echo.

Wyatt had caught my Bengal cat, all brown-orange fur and black spots, licking his lips. Echo looked happy, which meant Wyatt was spoiling him.

Everly: What did you feed him?

Wyatt: Just a snack.

A bunch of eating emojis followed. Something stirred in the pit of my stomach. I’d decided to call this butterfly wing fluttery feeling Cupid. Mostly so I could specifically tell stupid Cupid to go away.

Everly: I thought you were on patrol.

Wyatt: Bros gotta eat.

I rolled my eyes.

“Wyatt?” Whitney asked.

“Yup. He’s spoiling my cat.” I showed her the picture.

“I’m not surprised. He’s in love with Echo. I expect their wedding announcement any day.”

When Life is Terrifying!

Tags :

I’ve been writing for a while and have quite a few books out.

I’ve sent plenty of manuscripts to beta readers. For most of those I’ve expected some tough-love feedback to come back to me. That’s why I have beta readers, because I can’t catch everything myself.

Over the past eight years I’ve developed a pretty thick skin. I sort of remember how scary it was to send my first books to people for beta reading or reviews.

Or thought I did.

Now I remember.

Last week I sent out a finished, but not final, manuscript for my first YA Science Fiction Military Space Opera to beta readers.

After I hit the send button I literally wanted to run away and hide.

I’m comfortable writing the post-apocalyptic books, the contemporary fantasy, the fairy tale retellings, and the romances. Straight up sci-fi is new for me, and therefore, terrifying.

What if everyone hates it? What if it actually sucks?

I always think my books suck, but deep inside I have an idea of how much they suck.

This time, I’ve got nothing.

So, to pass the time while my book is away, I’m writing another romance. This one is a curvy girl romantic comedy that should keep everyone, including me laughing.

I’ll let you know how many packages of Oreos I go through when the comments come back from my beta readers.

There will probably be tears. They could be of joy or sorrow.

For anyone out there who’s trying something new, I feel you. We’re practically kin.

The Hunger Begins

Tags :

Hey everyone, I have a new book out today!

This is a precursor to my Jagged Scars series. Instead of twenty years later, this is how the world ends.

Meet Everly, high school band geek and sarcasm specialist, and her service cat, Echo.

They think the next week will be all about the school musical…they’re wrong.

Enjoy an excerpt!

Wyatt jerked me out of my musings. “Have you heard about that guy in New York that tried to eat a homeless dude?”

Who needed Google when you had Wyatt? He listened to podcasts while he worked out and always kept me informed of current events, questionable though they may be. “Nope.”

“He said he was so hungry he just started biting anything that looked edible.”

“Was he drunk or high or something?”

“They don’t think so.”

“That’s creepy,” I said.

“He said his stomach felt like it was digesting itself.”

I frowned. Jason had just said the same thing. Before I could digest that Whitney arrived, panting and out of breath. She threw the passenger door open and climbed in.

“About time,” Wyatt said. “I’m starving to death.”

Whitney wrinkled her nose. “It stinks in here.”

“It’s musk,” Wyatt said. “Halfway to perfume.”

“It’s gross.”

I agreed, but kept my mouth shut. It wasn’t worth it to get in the middle of one of their fights. Instead, I swiped my phone to life and looked up the crazy homeless guy in New York. That way I could help Wyatt freak our parents out at lunch. They loved it when we talked about disgusting stuff while we ate.

He’s Just a Guy

The third, and final, book of Karly Stratford’s Summer Romances is out!

This one takes place in Seattle. After researching all of the fun things to do in Seattle, I really want to go there! But only after things calm down. Am I right?

Allie just sent another roommate into wedded bliss, and her goal is to stay away from guys. She does not need a man to make her happy, thank you very much.

Max just broke up with the woman he thought he loved. He’s not in the market for a relationship.

Fate, however, has other plans for them both.

She doesn’t need a guy to save her

He doesn’t need a woman to be happy

Both are lying to themselves

Max:
He stopped breathing when she opened the door, and his brain refused to work.

Allie Dalton. His friend’s little sister, and the one girl he’d always wanted to go out with, but had never found the courage to ask.

She was staring at him. Was that surprise in her gaze, or irritation?

He should say something.

Allie:
With her sister in a cast from her toes to her hip, Allie doesn’t expect anything but movies and take-out for the week.

Then Max Ashly—her secret crush from high school—knocks on the door.

Allie just sent yet another roommate off into wedded bliss, and isn’t in the mood for some super-handsome, well-dressed guy to sweep her off her feet.

But this was Max, and she’d always wondered what it would be like to hold his hand…

Can Max and Allie get over their personal issues and seize the day, or will they allow themselves to drift apart once again?

Find out today!

Excerpt

Allie walked with him to the front door. “Thanks for coming over, it was good to see you.”

Max plucked up his courage. “Same. You know, if you want to go see something, I can totally take you.”

She ducked her head. “Thanks, but I think I’ll be here most of the time, looking after Becky. You know how she is, if you leave her alone too long, she’ll do something stupid like try to go down the school stairs on a sled.”

Max laughed. “She broke her collar bone that time, right?”

“Yup. Got her out of a bunch of school work, which wasn’t exactly fair.”

“I remember.” Max smiled. He’d forgotten how funny Allie was, and he wasn’t ready to walk away from her. Hadn’t Virginia just been telling him he needed to find a fun girl? “I’m serious about the offer to go see the sights or whatever.” He reached into his pocket and drew out one of his cards. “The bottom number is my cell. Can I have your number, since Becky might not be the most reliable at the moment?”

“Sure.” She rattled off her number, and he saved it in his phone.

Max stopped in the open door. “It was good to see you.” He willed her to take him up on his offer, but instead she smiled and waved.

“I’ll see you later.”

“So, you’re going to call me?”

“We’ll see.” She smiled as she shut the door.

Max wondered how long he had to wait before it was socially acceptable to call her.
